ETSG 2020 GHENT
ETSG conferences are open to any researcher with an interest in international trade issues. Everyone can submit a paper for presentation.
CONFERENCE INFORMATION AND NEWS
ETSG conferences have always been about informal, as well as formal, interactions amongst participants. With the social distancing rules that are likely to be necessary for the next several months because of Covid-19, it would be impossible to organise and host anything like a typical ETSG conference this year. We have therefore decided to cancel this September’s conference and meet again in 2021. We are very disappointed in having to do this, but we could see no way of offering the ETSG experience under the cloud of the coronavirus (or online).
We are, however, very happy to announce that the hosts of this year’s conference in Ghent have generously offered to hold the conference on 9-11 September 2021. So Ghent is a pleasure postponed rather than an opportunity lost. We look forward to meeting everyone again in 2021.
This is the twenty-second conference in what is now the largest (and friendliest) annual conference on international trade in the world.
ETSG 2020 is being hosted by Ghent University, Department of Economics in Ghent (Belgium). Detailed local information (e.g. location, transportation, hotels, visa requirements) will be posted in due course.
Prize for young economists awarded by RoWE
We are very pleased to announce that the Review of World Economics (ROWE) will award the sixth annual prize for young economists at the ETSG Conference 2020 in Ghent. The selected paper will receive €1,000 and the possibility to be published in ROWE. Only papers presented at the ETSG 2020 Conference (co-)authored by young economists (i.e. within 2 years of PhD completion) will be eligible. Authors of accepted papers will be informed of the procedure to submit their paper for consideration. Previous winners are listed in the Award Winners page.
Prize awarded by the WTO
We are very pleased to announce that the WTO will award the twelfth annual WTO Essay Award for Young Economists at the ETSG 2020 in Ghent. The deadline for submission is 8 June 2020 through the WTO website: see details here. Prevoius winners are listed in the Award Winners page.
All of the rooms being used for sessions are equipped with overhead projectors and data projectors connected to personal computers. Powerpoint and Acrobat software will be installed on all machines. If you wish to use a data projector, please bring your presentation on a USB memory stick. Files can be loaded onto the computers during the breaks. Due to time pressure within sessions, it will not be possible to connect your own laptop to the projectors.
Please note that this year’s conference will begin just after lunchtime on Thursday 10 September and will end late in the afternoon of Saturday 12 September. Please plan on attending the entire conference.
Please remember that all participants, regardless of whether they present papers, will be required to pay a fee for attending the conference. This has been set at €80. Notice that this is only a fraction of the per capita cost, but will help in keeping ETSG conferences viable.
